WIGAN WILL
BLOSSOM
AND REJOICE
We are the Anglican Christian family serving communities in and around Wigan.
We are one church with many local expressions working to see people rejoice and places blossom
through the transforming love of Jesus.
‘The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.’
Isaiah 35.1

Who We Are
The Church of England Benefice of Wigan, or ’Church Wigan,’ serves 200,000 people in Wigan and its surrounding towns and villages. We are a diverse yet connected family of time-honoured congregations and fresh expressions of church.
What We Do
Joy, dignity and vibrant new life: the key to all this is Jesus. Our goal is to help people meet Jesus, become more like him, and serve their neighbour so that our communities blossom in Jesus’ love and justice. This is what we call discipleship.
We do this through the wide spectrum of Church of England parish ministry, from public worship to christenings, weddings and funerals, to specific activities such as food security and chaplaincy.

LIFE EVENTS
For hundreds of years Church of England parish churches have served their communities by helping people mark key moments in their life, connecting these with God’s love and blessing. We would love to serve you in this way too.
If you are interested in having a Christening, Wedding or Funeral at one of our churches then please take a look at our Life Events page which details how to get in touch with us to arrange these.

Safeguarding
The Benefice of Wigan and its seven parishes are committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officers, PSOs. The Diocese of Liverpool’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
