Prayer & WORSHIP

House of Prayer

Prayer has always been at the heart of what goes on in Church Wigan and a few years ago the virtual Wigan House Of Prayer was formed. This has several aspects or ‘rooms.’ One is a scattered community of nearly one hundred members who pray regularly for the people and places of Wigan and we believe that this has been the reason that we have seen God move in such a powerful way.

Other ‘rooms’ include our regular work with local ecumenical and national partners such as Local Houses of Prayer, Thy Kingdom Come and the Korean Prayer Mission Europe to offer events such as weeks of prayer, teaching on prayer and prayer missions. Contact our Prayer Coordinator to learn more.

The House of Prayer also organises special prayer events which encourage those who see the value of this important ministry.

Daily Prayer

Our daily rhythm of prayer is the foundation of all we do. Morning Prayer is live-streamed Mondays to Saturdays on the Church Wigan Facebook page, and prayers for Wigan are sent daily to the inbox of everyone who’s signed up. This supports the prayer life of our local worshipping communities and helps us pray as one.

Prophetic

The Prophecy Group is another ‘room’ in the Wigan House of Prayer, seeking to listen to God and develop its prophetic gifting in service of worshipping communities and ministers.

alternative worship

Part of Church Wigan’s commitment to enrich our worship is to complement the Sunday services of our local churches with alternative worship experiences from different traditions which are open to all.

Currently we offer The Well, a contemporary style gathering which is informal and features modern music, and Evensong, a traditional choral service of evening prayer based around singing the psalms and canticles.

We gather on the first Sunday each month at 7pm for ‘The Well’, a spacious place where all can drink deeply of God’s presence through worship, teaching and prayer. We stream live to Facebook and gather in person at St Mark’s Church.

In 2025 we will expand this with other styles, including the popular Taize services, which involve candles and the meditative singing of prayer and scripture.
