Chaplaincy
Taking Jesus’ love into specific communities of Wigan life is an important part of the work of Church Wigan. Our chaplains provide spiritual and pastoral care in a growing number of areas including sports, homelessness, estates, retail and schools as well as the established chaplaincies in hospital and prison.
community chaplaincy
When their church building had to close, some members of St Barnabas pioneered the new concept of community chaplaincy, being a prayerful and positive presence on the streets of a local estate, sign-posting people to help, offering food security and working with the library to provide local activities, worship and pastoral care. It’s taken the good news beyond the walls of the church under the motto ‘smile and pray’ and is demonstrating a whole new way to be church.
We have Town Centre Chaplain’s and Marsh Green Chaplains who regularly go into the community. For more information, please contact the churches directly.

sports chaplaincy
In a sports-mad place like Wigan, sports chaplaincy is a great way to share the love of Jesus with the thousands of people, young and old, who play sport or support from the sidelines. Wigan Sports Chaplains partner with charity Sports Chaplaincy UK to provide a high quality service in areas including football, cricket and equestrian.
