what we long for
‘Through Jesus transformed people, transformed places.’
We see God writing a story of new hope and possibility here in Wigan. Yes, we live in an age of anxiety yet we can’t help but notice encouraging stories bubbling up like water from a spring. Jesus is transforming people and places in and around Wigan, and we want to join in!
That’s why the ancient prophecy in Isaiah 35 resonates with us, and why we constantly pray, ‘In Wigan as in heaven.’
what we do
Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.‘ (John 20.21-22)
Jesus calls and empowers ordinary people to join in his continuing work of revealing God’s love and justice. He calls them his disciples.
Our mission is simple:
‘We join in with what God is doing to grow disciples of Jesus among all the people of Wigan and its surrounding communities.’
how we go about it
Two important words for us are grow and diversity.
We grow worshipping communities that grow disciples of Christ. We want them to be wells where people can drink the living water of the Holy Spirit, and invite others to seek the same spiritual refreshment.
We also celebrate diversity as an authentic mark of the work of Christ’s Spirit. Church Wigan is an eclectic mix of disciples and communities that serve different areas in varied ways.
