BECOME LIKE jesus

rhythm of discipleship
There are certain repeating patterns of behaviour that help us grow in the likeness of Christ, nourished by the activity of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We call this the rhythm of our discipleship. Some of this we do on our own yet most of it we do alongside fellow Christians, either from our local church or through gathered Church Wigan activities.
We see seven elements to the rhythm. Three of the elements relate to our inner journey of reflection and three to our outer journey of service. At the centre is the biblical command to rest and be restored.
PRAY – connecting with God, listening as well as speaking.
READ/HEAR – the message of the bible.
LEARN – the way of faith and wisdom through example and story.
RESTORE – learning to trust God to stop and fill up our faith tank.
TELL – sharing our story of the difference Jesus has made in our life.
SERVE – connecting with others in the search for hope, dignity and justice.
GIVE – living a life of generosity – ‘freely you have received; freely give.’

the well
This is Church Wigan’s monthly gathering where all are invited to come and drink from the living water of God’s refreshing presence. It is informal and contemporary in style, with a space to sing praises, learn about how we can grow as disciples, and to respond in prayer and reflection.
The Well takes place on the first Sunday of every month, from 7.00-8.30pm.
The usual venue is St Mark’s Newtown, Victoria Road, WN5 9BN, but see the Church Wigan Facebook page or the Events & Stories page for updated info.
living the psalms
In 2024-25 Church Wigan invites everyone to ‘Live the Psalms,’ exploring the riches of the ancient hymnbook of Israel, deepening understanding, releasing creativity, and discovering new and relevant ways to reintroduce the treasure found in the psalms back into our public worship and private devotion.
There are three main elements to the programme, all of which are free of charge:
EXPLORING: a series of five Saturday morning Exploring the Psalms workshops to learn about he psalms, nourish our understanding and appreciate their relevance for us.
PRAYING: learning how we can use the psalms in creative ways to enrich our worship and prayer, through a creative process of developing a set of resources that can be used by worshipping communities and individuals.
CREATING: a series of workshops in early 2025 where people are invited to use poetry, art and music to express the psalms and create new ones.

Wigan Next Generation
The Next Generation Team focuses on engagement with 11-30 year olds. Its equips and supports our churches to share the good news of Jesus with younger people. It works in high schools, partners with youth organisations, reaches out into the community using its Games Van, and takes groups of young adults on mission trips.
The team can help your church through the whole process of youth work, from initial chats about what might be possible, to training and helping set something up. It could also include thinking how to refresh established youthwork.
